Pau D’Arco is the name of Tabebuia heptaphylla tree, which grows in the Amazon rainforest. The local Indian herbalists have been using its inner bark to prepare herbal tea Lapacho (also called tea of the Incas) for centuries. This tradition has recently also received scientific support when other active compounds like Lapahol or Beta-Lapachone have been discovered in the same tree. The red inner bark of these trees was used by the Incas in their medicine as one of the major drugs against most common health problems. And the traditional healers from the Andean and Bolivian regions called Kallaway have been using Lapacho for over a thousand years.
